Thu Jul 24 11:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Conway Returns to T20 Glory as Black Caps Cruise Past Zimbabwe

**Harare, Zimbabwe -** Devon Conway marked his return to the New Zealand T20I side with an unbeaten 59, guiding the Black Caps to a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the ongoing Tri-Series. This win places New Zealand at the top of the points table, boosting their confidence ahead of the remaining round-robin matches.

Conway, who last played for New Zealand at the T20 World Cup over a year ago, described the call-up as “fantastic” after being initially omitted from the squad due to his decision to decline a central contract. Finn Allen’s unfortunate foot injury paved the way for Conway’s return, and he seized the opportunity to contribute to the team’s success.

“It’s great to be back in this environment,” Conway stated in the post-match press conference. “Obviously Finn Allen’s injury is unfortunate, but for me it’s nice to get that opportunity to be with the squad again.”

Despite top-scoring, Conway admitted he initially struggled with the unexpected bounce in the Harare pitch. “There was a lot of steep bounce in the surface, which was a little bit unexpected, but we adjusted and thankfully we only had to chase 121 and managed to get across the line.” He also highlighted the challenge posed by Zimbabwe’s left-arm seamer, Richard Ngarava.

Conway’s innings, coupled with valuable contributions from Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell, ensured a smooth chase of Zimbabwe’s modest total.

Looking ahead, New Zealand will face South Africa on Tuesday, a match where Conway will be particularly mindful of left-arm pacer Kwena Maphaka, who troubled him in their previous encounter.

This series marks Conway’s first experience under the guidance of new coach Rob Walter, who recently took on the all-format role for New Zealand. Conway has been impressed with Walter’s approach in the few days they’ve worked together.

“It’s just been a couple of days we’ve been with him but his positive mindset around T20 cricket has been nice and clear for us batters,” Conway said. “He’s brought positive energy and a slightly new way of thinking, so it’s nice to have him on board.”

With two wins under their belt, New Zealand will be aiming to continue their strong form as they set their sights on the final. The series also provides crucial preparation for future tournaments, including the upcoming T20 and ODI World Cups, which Walter will oversee during his three-year tenure.
