**New Delhi -** Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a trip to the United Kingdom on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, with bilateral trade, extradition of fugitives, and the presence of pro-Khalistan elements topping the agenda. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced the visit details on Tuesday, emphasizing the importance of addressing India’s security concerns with the U.K. government.
A key highlight of the visit is expected to be the unveiling of the India-U.K. Free Trade Agreement (FTA), first announced on May 6th. Misri indicated that final legal processes are underway and that the agreement will significantly boost economic ties. The U.K. is currently the sixth-largest investor in India, with $36 billion in cumulative investment, while India has also invested nearly $20 billion in the U.K.
The FTA is projected to benefit both nations, particularly in sectors such as advanced machinery, automobiles, and spirits, including Scotch whiskey. The U.K. government estimates the agreement could increase bilateral trade by approximately 39%, equivalent to ₹34.4 billion.
Beyond trade, Modi will raise concerns regarding the presence of Khalistan activists in the U.K., whose activities have targeted the Indian High Commissioner in London. Security measures for the visit are heightened, and meeting venues are being kept confidential due to these concerns.
India will also push for the extradition of fugitives like Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi, who are currently residing in the U.K. Foreign Secretary Misri expressed confidence in bringing these individuals to justice, referencing previous successful extraditions.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to meet with King Charles III and Prime Minister Keir Starmer during the visit, and they are expected to have discussions on international issues, including the U.K.’s support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.
