Sat Jul 19 08:50:00 UTC 2025: **DeChambeau Roars Back at British Open, Makes Cut After Dismal First Round**

**Royal Liverpool, England** – Bryson DeChambeau mounted a stunning comeback at the British Open on Friday, carding a 6-under 65 to make the cut after a disastrous 7-over first round. DeChambeau finished the day at 1-over par, just inside the cut line.

“I woke up this morning and I said, you know what, I can’t give up,” DeChambeau said. “My dad always told me never to give up, just got to keep going, and that’s what I did today.” He emphasized his pride in his resilience, adding, “I was proud of the way I fought back, really persevered through some emotionally difficult moments, and to hold myself together and not get pissed and slam clubs and throw things and all that like I wanted to.”

The cut line settled at 1-over, with DeChambeau’s birdie on the 17th proving crucial. His performance guarantees him weekend tee times, a feat he missed achieving last year.

Several high-profile players failed to make the cut, including Jason Day (+2), Zach Johnson (+3), Patrick Cantlay (+3), Patrick Reed (+5), Min Woo Lee (+6), Brooks Koepka (+7), Sahith Theegala (+7), Collin Morikawa (+7) and Adam Scott (+9). The poor showings of Cantlay, Reed, and Koepka could jeopardize their chances of being selected for the Ryder Cup team.

The Royal Portrush course last hosted the British Open in 2019, where the cut line was also +1. The lowest cuts relative to par since 1969 were -1 in both 2006 (Royal Liverpool) and 1990 (St. Andrews).
