**KOCHI, July 18, 2025** – The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has been recognized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for its innovative seed production technology for giant trevally, also known as Vatta. The technology has been selected as one of the top five fisheries innovations in the country.
The official release of the technology was conducted by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during ICAR’s 97th Foundation Day celebrations in New Delhi. CMFRI Director Grinson George expressed optimism that the technology will significantly contribute to boosting the production of this commercially important fish species. This development signifies a major step forward for India’s aquaculture sector and promises to improve the availability of giant trevally in the market.
