Fri Jul 18 11:19:49 UTC 2025: ## News Article: Karnataka Authorities Blame RCB for Deadly Stampede During Victory Celebrations

**Bengaluru, India** – Karnataka state authorities have placed the blame for last month’s deadly stampede, which claimed the lives of 11 fans and injured over 50, squarely on the shoulders of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) cricket team, its partners, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). The incident occurred on June 4th near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, during celebrations following RCB’s Indian Premier League (IPL) victory.

A recently released report by state authorities alleges gross mismanagement of the event, citing a lack of formal request and insufficient detail provided by organizers when seeking permission for the victory parade. The report states that permission was ultimately denied, yet RCB proceeded with the event regardless.

“Consequently, the permission was not granted,” the report emphasized.

Hundreds of thousands of fans had gathered to celebrate the team’s victory and cheer on star player Virat Kohli and other RCB members. The sheer scale of the crowd coupled with inadequate safety measures contributed to the tragic stampede.

In the days following the incident, police detained four individuals, including a senior RCB executive, representatives from event organizers DNA, and members of the KSCA.

The tragedy prompted widespread grief and condemnation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the event as “absolutely heartrending,” while Virat Kohli expressed being “at a loss for words.” Indian coach Gautam Gambhir criticized the decision to allow the mass celebrations without proper preparation.

RCB has not yet issued a statement in response to the report’s findings. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
