Thu Jul 17 01:30:00 UTC 2025: **Monsoon Rains Lash India, Disrupting Travel and Claiming Lives**
**New Delhi:** The southwest monsoon is actively affecting the entire country, bringing heavy rainfall and causing disruptions across multiple states. On Wednesday, widespread showers lashed regions from the Western Himalayan states, including Uttarakhand, to Arunachal Pradesh, and from Gujarat to Odisha and Kashmir to Kerala.
In the national capital, Delhi, showers led to the diversion of five flights from Indira Gandhi International Airport to Jaipur and Amritsar due to poor weather conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall over eastern and adjoining central India for the next two days, and over southern India for the next 6-7 days.
According to the IMD, two western disturbances and low-pressure areas are currently active over Northwest India, Bihar, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand. These systems are contributing to the widespread rainfall expected to continue for the next few days.
**Key Highlights from Affected Regions:**
* **Uttarakhand, Konkan, and Central Maharashtra:** Experienced extremely heavy rainfall, with some areas recording up to 21 cm of precipitation.
* **Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya:** Reported rainfall between 7-20 cm.
* **Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Odisha, East Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Kerala, Karnataka, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh:** Recorded rainfall between 7-11 cm in isolated locations.

The temperature in Srinagar and other districts has remained almost the same during the day and night. Katra-Sanjichhat chopper services were suspended due to fog, but the enthusiasm of pilgrims remained unaffected, with large numbers continuing to visit the Vaishno Devi shrine on foot.
* **Delhi-NCR:** Afternoon showers brought relief from the heat, with the maximum temperature dropping to 34 degrees Celsius. However, five flights were diverted from Delhi airport due to the weather.
* **Assam:** A landslide at a highway construction site in Dima Hasao district killed two and injured five. Up to 10 people are feared trapped under the debris, and rescue operations are ongoing.
