Thu Jul 17 09:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Scottie Scheffler: Winning Isn’t Everything, But I Can’t Stop Trying

**PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland** – World number one Scottie Scheffler, on the cusp of a potential fourth major win at the Open Championship, has revealed a complex relationship with his success, stating that winning, while providing a sense of accomplishment, doesn’t bring him true fulfillment.

“This is not a fulfilling life,” Scheffler said ahead of the tournament at Royal Portrush. “It’s fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment, but it’s not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart.”

Despite his remarkable career, including two Masters victories and this year’s PGA Championship, Scheffler admitted to grappling with the fleeting nature of triumph. He described the winning feeling as awesome for “two minutes,” after which attention quickly shifts to the next event.

Scheffler, who has 16 career wins, exemplified this with his recent victory at the Byron Nelson, his hometown event. Despite shooting 31 under par, the moment of celebration quickly faded, leaving him pondering the next meal.

“It feels like you work your whole life to celebrate winning a tournament for like a few minutes,” Scheffler lamented.

Despite this existential questioning, Scheffler remains driven to compete at the highest level. He acknowledged his near-obsessive dedication to the sport, confessing he is “kind of sicko” that loves the work. He is currently on a streak of ten consecutive top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour, just shy of his career best.

While he questions the ultimate point of inspiring others to chase golfing greatness, Scheffler is nonetheless determined to contend for the Claret Jug this week. He aims to improve his record at The Open, where he seeks to add to his two top-10 finishes.

Ultimately, Scheffler recognizes the cyclical nature of golf, where both victory and defeat are temporary. “No matter what happens, we’re always on to the next week,” he said. “That’s one of the beautiful things about golf, and it’s also one of the frustrating things, because you can have such great accomplishments, but the show goes on.”
