**Bihar CM Announces Teacher Recruitment Drive Ahead of Assembly Elections Amid Opposition Skepticism**

**Patna, July 17, 2025:** With Bihar assembly elections on the horizon, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has directed the Education Department to expedite the Teacher Recruitment Test 4 (TRE-4) to fill vacant teaching positions in government schools. The announcement, made on Wednesday, comes after the state government clarified that the 35% reservation for women in these recruitments will be exclusively for women domiciled in Bihar, a policy change enacted on July 8th.

Mr. Kumar, in a social media post, stated his instruction to the Education Department to immediately count the vacancies. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had previously announced plans to appoint over 80,000 teachers in the fourth phase of TRE before the election, incorporating roughly 20,000 unfilled posts from TRE-3, potentially leading to the recruitment of over 100,000 teachers. This move is part of a larger initiative, announced on July 15th, to create one crore jobs and employment opportunities in Bihar over the next five years. The Chief Minister claims his government has already provided government jobs to over 10 lakh youth and employment to approximately 39 lakh people.

However, the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has dismissed the announcement as an election ploy. RJD spokesperson Chitaranjan Gagan alleged that the government is feigning ignorance about the number of vacancies, claiming that over 3 lakh teacher posts are currently vacant in Bihar. He called for an immediate notification and commencement of the recruitment process, questioning the timing of the announcement so close to the impending election announcement and predicting potential delays due to the model code of conduct.
