**New Delhi – July 17, 2025:** The Indian government confirmed today that it is actively working to find a solution for Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse sentenced to death in Yemen. Priya, originally from Kollengode in Kerala, was found guilty of murdering a Yemeni citizen in July 2017.
According to External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, India is in close contact with Yemeni authorities and friendly nations to explore all possible avenues for resolution. Priya’s scheduled execution for July 16th was postponed.
“This is a sensitive matter, and the government of India has been offering all possible assistance,” Jaiswal stated during a media briefing. He emphasized that the government has provided legal assistance, appointed a lawyer for the family, and arranged regular consular visits.
“We have been in constant touch with the local authorities and the family members to resolve the issue,” he added. Efforts are underway to facilitate a mutually agreeable solution between Priya’s family and the victim’s family. The government continues to monitor the situation closely and provide all possible support.
