**Salem Government Hospital Receives Boost in Diagnostic Capabilities with New Medical Equipment**

Salem’s Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital (GMKMCH) has received a significant upgrade to its diagnostic capabilities with the inauguration of two new medical testing machines. The event, held Wednesday evening, was presided over by Tourism Minister R. Rajendran.

The newly installed equipment, valued at ₹32 lakh, includes a Nerve Conduction Study and Electromyography (NCS-EMG) machine and a Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSK-USG). The NCS-EMG will aid in assessing the functionality of nerves and muscles, while the MSK-USG provides advanced imaging of muscles, joints, and the spinal cord. Minister Rajendran emphasized the MSK-USG’s versatility, highlighting its ability to examine internal organs, muscles, joints, and membranes and their movement, leading to earlier diagnoses and treatment.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Rajendran lauded Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s commitment to bolstering the state’s healthcare infrastructure. He noted the Chief Minister’s continuous efforts to provide the hospital with new buildings and advanced medical equipment over the past four years.

The inauguration of the new equipment follows closely on the heels of Chief Minister Stalin’s recent visit to Salem, during which he inaugurated a new ₹37 crore cancer complex and several other high-tech pieces of equipment at GMKMCH. These include a line accelerator equipment worth ₹22.97 crore that provides high-precision radiation therapy, HBD brachytherapy equipment worth ₹4 crore that provides internal radiation therapy, and the CT simulator equipment worth ₹4 crore.

District Collector R. Brindha Devi, GMKMCH Dean J. Devi Meenal, and other concerned officials were also present at the inauguration. The upgrades are expected to significantly improve the hospital’s ability to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, benefiting the residents of Salem and the surrounding region.
