Thu Jul 17 02:12:01 UTC 2025: ## Kudumbashree Mission Revitalizes Tribal Art in Kerala with ‘Jana Galsa’ Initiative
**Thiruvananthapuram, July 17, 2025** – The Kudumbashree mission has launched a new initiative called ‘Jana Galsa,’ meaning “people’s celebration” in the Paniya tribal language, aimed at revitalizing and promoting the indigenous art forms of Kerala’s tribal communities. The project seeks to transform these art forms into sustainable enterprises that provide income and livelihood for tribal people while simultaneously raising public awareness and integrating tribal culture into the education system.
The first phase of Jana Galsa involves conducting a comprehensive survey to create a directory of all tribal art forms and artists across the state. Animators from the Scheduled Tribes will lead this survey, which is expected to be completed by August 20. The Kudumbashree plans to establish a state-level consortium to incorporate and revitalize these art forms, transforming them into income-generating models.
Beyond economic benefits, Jana Galsa will also focus on integrating tribal culture into the curriculum. The Kudumbashree will work with the General Education department to include tribal art, culture, rituals, traditions, and cuisine in school curricula, fostering awareness among younger generations.
The initiative will also partner with anti-drug campaigns and other social awareness drives, utilizing tribal art forms as a medium for conveying important messages. The project is supported by various organizations, including Kudumbashree’s theatre group Rangashree, cultural tourism centers, the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, KIRTADS, and the Folklore Academy.
