**Chicago Braces for Potential Severe Weather Wednesday**

**CHICAGO (June 26, 2024)** – Chicago residents should prepare for a sweltering Wednesday with a significant risk of severe weather this afternoon and evening, according to ABC7 Chicago Meteorologist Larry Mowry. Temperatures are expected to soar into the low 90s, accompanied by high humidity, creating a potentially dangerous combination.

Between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across the Chicago area. The primary threat is high winds, but there is also a chance of an isolated tornado. Heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding in some areas.

Much of the region is under a Level 2 risk for severe weather, indicating an elevated chance of hazardous conditions. Northwest Indiana and some south suburbs are under a Level 1 risk, signifying a slightly lower but still present threat.

The potential for unsettled weather extends into Thursday, with another chance of storms. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected this weekend, with Saturday posing the highest probability of rain.

Tuesday saw similar hot and humid conditions, with temperatures hovering around 90 degrees and heat index values reaching the mid-90s in some locations. While a few showers were possible Tuesday evening, most of the area remained dry. An Air Quality Alert remains in effect for the rest of Tuesday, though air quality has improved slightly compared to Monday.

Residents are urged to stay informed of the latest weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
