**Chennai Metro to Build Multi-Story Commercial Building at Arumbakkam Station**

**CHENNAI, July 17, 2025** – Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has announced plans to construct a multi-story building at the Arumbakkam Metro Rail station premises. The project aims to boost revenue by attracting commuters with convenient access to commercial and office spaces.

The new structure will be built behind the Arumbakkam station, near the parking lot, and will include a basement, a stilt floor with a four-tier mechanical parking system, and seven upper floors. Spanning 1,660.34 sq. m of land, the building will offer a mix of commercial and office spaces, with four floors dedicated to retail and food outlets and three floors for offices.

CMRL officials stated that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to build high-rise buildings near Metro stations, leveraging land availability to create hubs of activity around the transit network. Ekkatuthangal already has an office building, and similar plans are in development for Saidapet station.

“It is a good move to have office spaces near the stations since everyone is keen to avoid congestion on roads to get to their workplaces. In addition, allocating spaces for food outlets too is an added advantage, as people will certainly want to grab a bite before or after travel,” said Rajaram, a frequent Chennai Metro commuter.

CMRL has floated bids for the project, with an expected two-year construction timeline following the selection of a contractor within the next three months. The project is expected to enhance commuter convenience and contribute to CMRL’s non-fare box revenue.
