Wed Jul 16 08:00:00 UTC 2025: **MLB Draft Day 1: High School Talent Dominates Early Rounds**

**Atlanta, GA** – The first day of the 2025 MLB Draft, presented by Nike, concluded Sunday night with 105 selections across the first three rounds, including Competitive Balance and compensation picks. While every selection marked a significant moment for the young athletes, several key trends emerged.

High school talent was a prominent theme, particularly shortstops. Eli Willits, a shortstop from Fort Cobb-Broxton HS (OK), went No. 1 overall to the Washington Nationals, making him the third-youngest player ever drafted first overall. The Los Angeles Angels followed by selecting Tyler Bremner, a RHP from UC Santa Barbara. The Seattle Mariners then drafted Kade Anderson, a LHP from Louisiana State.

Corona High School in Southern California had a historic night, producing three draftees: Seth Hernandez (RHP, Pirates), Billy Carlson (SS, White Sox), and Brady Ebel (SS, Brewers). The Tennessee Volunteers led all colleges with eight players selected on Day 1, including Liam Doyle, Kilen Gavin, Andrew Fischer, Marcus Phillips, A.J. Russell, Dean Curley, Tanner Franklin and Nate Snead. JoJo Parker (SS, Blue Jays) and Kyson Witherspoon (RHP, Red Sox) also made history as twin brothers selected in the opening rounds.

Day 2 of the draft, covering Rounds 4-20, begins Monday at 11:30 a.m. ET and will be streamed live on MLB.com.
