**Four-Star DL James Johnson Flips Commitment to Texas**

**AUSTIN, TX** – In a major recruiting coup, the Texas Longhorns have secured a commitment from four-star defensive lineman James Johnson, flipping him from the University of Georgia. Johnson, a standout from Miami (Fla.) Northwestern, had been verbally committed to the Bulldogs since late June but had recently hinted at keeping his options open.

The 6-foot-2.5, 285-pound powerhouse is ranked the No. 13 defensive lineman and No. 90 overall player in the nation, according to 247Sports.

Johnson cited his connection with Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis as a key factor in his decision. “It’s a great program so everything really stood out,” Johnson said after his visit. “I just liked how they run their defense. I went over the plays and all that and I could fit into it well, that’s what I really liked. But what really stood out is Coach Davis. He’s a real genuine guy, he really wants to recruit you and wants to coach you, that’s what I really liked.”

Texas hosted Johnson for visits in April and again this past weekend.

According to 247Sports evaluation, Johnson is described as an “Explosive defensive tackle with all the fixings to make a living up front. More of a one-gap player than he is a two-gap player at this stage, but has the mass to dock in the middle.” The evaluation also highlights his “lower-body twitch” and “push-back power.”

Johnson’s commitment is a significant victory for head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff, bolstering the Longhorns’ defensive line and solidifying their recruiting class. Johnson is expected to make an immediate impact upon arrival in Austin.
