**David Peterson Named National League All-Star After Hip Surgery Resurgence**

**BALTIMORE** – New York Mets pitcher David Peterson has been named to the National League All-Star team, capping off a remarkable turnaround following hip surgery two offseasons ago. Peterson will replace San Francisco Giants pitcher Robbie Ray, who is unavailable due to a scheduled start.

Before the surgery, Peterson was considered an average pitcher, but his performance has surged since recovering. His 3.06 ERA in the first half of the season is the lowest of his career.

“It’s a huge honor,” Peterson said. “It’s something that you strive for as a kid and as a baseball player. So yeah, I’m extremely excited and just very humbled.”

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza praised Peterson’s resilience, saying, “Especially last year what he went through with the injury and how far he’s come — he’s a huge part of this team, of that rotation. For him to get rewarded, it’s pretty special.”

Since returning from surgery in late May 2024, Peterson has posted a 2.97 ERA, ranking among the top pitchers in the Majors. He also leads the Mets in innings pitched, strikeouts, ERA, and WHIP.

Peterson credits his improved health and expanded repertoire for his success. He will join fellow Mets All-Stars Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, and Edwin Díaz in Atlanta. The Mets last had four All-Stars in 2022.
