**Mets’ Pete Alonso Calls for Hockey-Style Fighting in MLB: “Take a Knee If You Don’t Want to Fight!”**
**Arlington, TX** – New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso, known for his power at the plate, is now making headlines for a radical proposal to change the face of baseball altercations. Speaking to reporters ahead of his fifth All-Star Game appearance, Alonso advocated for allowing one-on-one fights, similar to those seen in hockey, suggesting that ejections for charging the mound should be a thing of the past.
“If there’s one rule I could change, I don’t think people should get ejected after charging the mound or fighting,” Alonso stated. “So I think it should be hockey style.”
Alonso’s vision is for controlled, one-on-one skirmishes, preventing the bench-clearing brawls that often result in multiple ejections and potential injuries. His proposal even includes a “take a knee” option for players who don’t want to engage.
“If you go out and charge the mound, then you should be able to, but if the pitcher or hitter or whoever charges, if they don’t want to fight, they take a knee and then they don’t have to fight,” Alonso explained. “But if someone charges the mound, it’s one vs. one, hockey style, and then that’s it.”
The Mets first baseman’s comments come from a place of experience. Alonso has been involved in several heated on-field incidents, including a notable altercation with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2022.
While MLB has yet to publicly comment on Alonso’s proposal, and is currently focused on implementing innovations like the Automated Ball-Strike System, his idea has sparked debate among fans and analysts alike. Whether it will gain traction remains to be seen, but Alonso’s call for a more structured and perhaps more entertaining form of on-field dispute resolution has certainly thrown a curveball into the world of baseball.
