**Uttar Pradesh Streamlines Education with School Merger Plan, Focus on Quality and Access**

Lucknow, July 15, 2025 – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced further steps in the state’s school merger plan, emphasizing a focus on improved quality, resource optimization, and universal access to education. In a meeting with the Basic Education department on Monday, July 14, 2025, CM Adityanath stated that school pairing aims to create a more efficient and effective education system benefitting students, teachers, and parents alike.

The plan involves merging schools with fewer than 50 students with nearby facilities. Adityanath directed that schools with more than 50 students should remain independent to strengthen administrative efficiency, accountability, and academic oversight. He also instructed that vacant school buildings resulting from the mergers be repurposed as pre-primary schools (Bal Vatikas). The Chief Minister has mandated a swift and decisive implementation of the plan.

Ensuring no child is left behind, Adityanath stressed the responsibility of School Management Committees (Principals and Village Heads) in ensuring all children between the ages of 6 and 14 are enrolled and attending school. He reiterated the importance of the “School Chalo Abhiyan” (Let’s Go to School Campaign) to achieve universal enrollment. Further support will be provided through direct benefit transfers (DBT) of ₹1,200 to parents for uniforms, shoes, socks, stationery, and study materials for students enrolled in council schools. The U.P. government aims to enhance educational opportunities for children across the state through this comprehensive plan.
