**Camp Pendleton Marines Deployed to Southern Border for Support Mission**

SAN DIEGO, CA – A new contingent of 500 Marines and sailors from Camp Pendleton has deployed to the southern border to provide engineering and logistical support to U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Border Patrol. Designated as Task Force Forge under Joint Task Force–Southern Border, the unit from Combat Logistics Battalion 15, 1st Marine Logistics Group, assumed operational responsibilities on Monday, July 14th, according to Marine officials.

The deployment is in response to President Donald Trump’s January 20th executive order, which declared a national emergency at the southern border and directed the Department of Defense to assist in addressing the situation.

This isn’t the first deployment of Camp Pendleton Marines to the border. In January, 500 Marines from Task Force Sapper were sent to San Diego and El Paso. Tragically, two members of Task Force Sapper, Lance Cpl. Albert A. Aguilera, of Riverside, and Lance Cpl. Marcelino M. Gamino of Fresno, died in a vehicle accident in New Mexico in April while supporting the mission.

Task Force Forge received “hands-on” training from the previous deployment, Task Force Sapper, before deploying. They will focus on bolstering support activities in the Yuma sector.

“Our mission is clear,” stated Lt. Col. Colin Graham, commanding officer of Task Force Forge, “support our federal partners and Joint Task Force-Southern Border, strengthen operational readiness, and support upholding the territorial integrity of our nation’s border with professionalism and precision.”
