**Barcelona, Spain** – The Spanish government is investigating Barcelona football star Lamine Yamal following allegations that individuals with dwarfism were exploited as entertainers at his 18th birthday party last weekend. The Ministry of Social Rights has requested the prosecutor’s office to investigate after receiving a complaint from the Association for People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias with Dwarfism (ADEE).

Yamal, who turned 18 on Sunday, celebrated with a private event in Olivella, near Barcelona, attended by teammates and celebrities. ADEE has publicly condemned the hiring of people with dwarfism as part of the entertainment, arguing it perpetuates stereotypes, fuels discrimination, and undermines the image and rights of people with disabilities.

“The ADEE has filed a complaint, so this ministry has asked the prosecutor’s office to investigate to see if the law has been violated and, therefore, the rights of people with disabilities,” the Social Rights Ministry told AFP.

While guests were barred from filming the event, a video surfaced showing a group of people with dwarfism entering the party. One of the performers, speaking anonymously to Catalan radio station RAC1, defended their involvement, stating they were treated with respect and were allowed to work in peace. The performer explained that they dance, deliver drinks, and perform magic tricks at events, adding that the ADEE has been attempting to harm their profession for years without offering alternative work opportunities. “We’re normal people who dedicate ourselves to what we love doing in an absolutely legal way,” they said.

Yamal’s representatives have not yet responded to requests for comment. The investigation comes as Yamal is a candidate for the Ballon d’Or, having played a key role in Barcelona’s domestic treble last season.
