**Washington D.C.** – Democrats are aggressively targeting former President Donald Trump over the handling of case files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, mirroring concerns previously voiced by right-wing circles. This marks a notable shift from Trump’s first term, when Democrats swiftly denounced his conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein’s death.
Driven by a recent administration memo downplaying Epstein conspiracy theories, Democratic committees and lawmakers are demanding the release of more documents, accusing Trump and his allies of either a cover-up or a cynical attempt to exploit the issue for political gain.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is actively amplifying the issue, with its official X account repeatedly calling for the release of the Epstein files. A new DNC account is dedicated to reminding followers of the unreleased documents, while also sharing Trump-focused criticism related to Epstein from social media influencers, including Elon Musk’s unsubstantiated claims.
“What is Trump hiding? Release the Epstein files,” the DNC posted on X last month.
Democratic representatives are also joining the chorus, with Rep. Marc Veasey of Texas announcing a resolution “demanding the Trump administration release all files related to the Epstein case.”
White House spokesman Harrison Fields responded to the Democratic criticism, stating that President Trump has assembled a “highly qualified and experienced law and order team” and “Any attempt to sow division within this team is baseless.”
The intensified focus on the Epstein files comes after the Justice Department and the FBI released a memo stating that an “exhaustive review” found no evidence of a sex trafficking client list and reaffirmed Epstein’s death as a suicide. The memo also cited the protection of victims as a hurdle to releasing more information.
Democrats are defending their messaging, arguing the public has the right to know. “Trump administration officials are either lying about the file and keeping it covered up to protect themselves, or they lied about its existence in a shameless political ploy to get elected. Either way, it is disgusting, and they have to be held accountable,” said Tim Hogan, the DNC’s senior adviser for messaging, mobilization and strategy.
