**Chennai Transformer to Receive Privacy Enclosure Amid Public Misuse**

**Chennai, India – July 14, 2025** – The Chennai Corporation is taking action to protect a transformer on Bharathi Salai in Triplicane from public misuse, including open urination and serving as an impromptu cow shed. Preliminary work is underway to erect a protective metal casing around the transformer.

Local shopkeeper Tarakadu Ganapathy Sriram highlighted the issue of public urination and the practice of tethering cows to the structure. The new enclosure, featuring perforated metal panels, aims to deter these activities and provide the transformer with much-needed “privacy,” as noted by residents.

The problem extends beyond the immediate vicinity of the transformer. Just a short distance away on Babu Jagajeevanram Road (also known as Bells Road), a herd of stray cattle was observed congregating, seemingly unconcerned by passing traffic. Some cattle were even seen tethered to manhole lids, highlighting the challenges of managing stray animals in the area.

The project, intended to blend functionality with aesthetics, is a welcome step towards improving civic infrastructure and addressing public sanitation concerns in the bustling neighborhood. The Chennai Corporation hopes the enclosure will preserve the utility of the transformer and to discourage public misuse.
