**Lima, Peru** – The biographical series “Sin Querer Queriendo,” which chronicles the life of Mexican comedian Roberto Gómez Bolaños “Chespirito,” continues to generate controversy. During an interview on the Latina Televisión program “Ponte en la Cola,” Peruvian actress Hany Portocarrero, who plays Lucía Méndez in the HBO Max production, and actor Germán Loero offered their perspectives on the potential legal action being considered by Florinda Meza, Bolaños’ widow.
Meza reportedly feels “humiliated and struck” by the series’ depiction of her late husband and their relationship. Portocarrero, however, believes the series is simply presenting an honest portrayal of events. “In my opinion, we are seeing the story as it really was,” she stated. “There really was a relationship between them, and nothing is being invented.” While acknowledging Meza’s right to legal recourse, Portocarrero emphasized the importance of presenting the historical context.
Loero echoed Portocarrero’s sentiment regarding the narrative approach. “There are situations that are romanticized because the plot requires it,” he explained. He also noted the need for a production of this scale to be cautious.
Despite the controversy, Loero highlighted the enduring legacy of “Chespirito” in Mexico. “In Mexico, there has never been a program as successful as ‘Chespirito’,” he said, adding that the series aims to humanize the iconic figure. “We are seeing human beings.”
The debate surrounding the series’ depiction of Bolaños and his personal life continues to unfold. “Ponte en la Cola,” hosted by Micheille Soifer and Ricardo Rondón, airs weekdays at 2 p.m. on Latina Televisión.
