Mon Jul 14 15:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Hogwarts Reopens on HBO: Production Begins on New “Harry Potter” Series

**Leavesden, UK -** The magic is back! Production has officially commenced at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on HBO’s highly anticipated “Harry Potter” television series, marking a new chapter in the beloved franchise almost 14 years after the final film.

The series, set to debut in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max, promises a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven-book saga, with each book spanning an entire season. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner (“Succession”) and director Mark Mylod are leading the charge to bring Harry’s journey back to life for a new generation.

Fans got their first glimpse of the core trio: Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The young actors were chosen from a pool of over 30,000 hopefuls after an extensive casting call.

New additions to the cast were also unveiled, including Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.

A stellar supporting cast has also been announced. John Lithgow will portray Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer will embody Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu will take on the role of Severus Snape, and Nick Frost will bring Rubeus Hagrid to life. The Weasley family will be brought to life by Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley. Lox Pratt and Johnny Flynn were cast as Draco and Lucius Malfoy. Rounding out the cast are: Leo Earley, Alessia Leoni, Sienna Moosah, Bertie Carvel, Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby.

Variety has reported that production on the first season is expected to continue until Spring 2026, with Season 2 immediately following.

A top-tier team of department heads has been assembled, including Adriano Goldman as director of photography, Cate Hall as hair and makeup designer, and Mark Holt as SFX supervisor, ensuring the wizarding world is brought to life with stunning visuals and attention to detail.

The series is being executive produced by Gardiner, Mylod, Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
