**VIJAYAWADA, July 14, 2025** – The banks of the Krishna river at Haritha Berm Park transformed into a vibrant canvas on Sunday as over 300 children and youth participated in a floor painting and drawing competition. The event, jointly organized by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) and the NTR district administration, aimed to raise awareness about pressing environmental issues.
NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha actively participated, showcasing his artistic talents alongside his family. The competitions centered around themes like “Say No To Single-Use Plastic,” “Swarnandhra Vision,” “Harithandhra,” “Public Private People Partnership,” “Save Water,” and “Reduce-Reuse-Recycle.”
“The competitions were organized to raise awareness among the children about the ill-effects of plastic and to foster habits that are important for environmental protection,” stated Mr. Lakshmisha.
Impressed by the enthusiasm of the participants, the Collector announced plans to host regular photography, yoga, and swimming contests at Haritha Berm Park and other tourist destinations in the district. “Such programmes would help children make the most of their holidays and also propel them to think creatively,” he added. Bird photography competitions on Bhavani Island are also in the works.
Following the event, Mr. Lakshmisha congratulated VMC Commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra and his team for their success in the Swachh Super League and presented awards to the winners. G. Tanuja secured first place in the floor painting category with her artwork on “Swarnandhra-Save Water,” followed by P. Yamini in second place, and V. Jaswanthi and M. Suresh in third and fourth respectively. Cash prizes ranging from ₹3,000 to ₹10,000 were awarded to the winners.
The event proved to be a resounding success, fostering environmental consciousness and showcasing the creative talents of Vijayawada’s youth.
