**Hyderabad, July 14, 2025:** A 60-year-old woman from Secunderabad fell victim to a sophisticated online scam, losing over ₹1 lakh to a fraudster impersonating an Amazon Customer Care executive. The Hyderabad Cyber Crimes police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The victim, awaiting a refund for a previous purchase, searched online for Amazon’s customer support number. Unknowingly, she dialed a fake number listed in the search results. A man identifying himself as Deepak Shukla answered the call, claiming to be an Amazon representative.

According to the police report, Shukla convinced the woman that he needed remote access to her phone to process the refund. Trusting his explanation, she granted him screen-sharing access, which allowed the scammer to access her Amazon and Google Pay accounts. He then further manipulated her into sharing her bank account details, claiming the refund could not be processed otherwise.

The woman only realized she was being defrauded after a total of ₹1,07,621 was siphoned from her accounts. She immediately reported the incident to the Cyber Crime Police Station.

This incident follows a series of recent cybercrime cases in Hyderabad and surrounding areas. Authorities are urging the public to be extremely cautious when dealing with online customer service and to verify the authenticity of contact information before sharing personal details. Police are also urging caution when granting remote access to devices to unknown parties.
