Sun Jul 13 01:50:00 UTC 2025: **Surridge’s Journey: From English Football Grind to MLS Stardom**
**NASHVILLE, TN** – Nashville SC striker Sam Surridge is making waves in Major League Soccer after a winding path through the lower tiers of English football. Surridge, known for his quiet demeanor, recently revealed the unusual trajectory that shaped him into the player he is today.
Teammate Alex Muyl shared, “We do a thing in preseason where we talk about our journey, and he spent the first five minutes just listing clubs that he’s been at.” The English forward rose through the ranks at AFC Bournemouth but found himself loaned out multiple times in search of consistent playing time. These stints took him to non-league teams like Weymouth and Poole Town, as well as League Two clubs like Yeovil Town and Oldham Athletic. He even had a spell with Swansea City in the Championship.
“I’d say a lot of my footballing knowledge that I’ve learned has come from the lower leagues, from going out on loan,” Surridge explained. He believes the experience of battling in tough conditions against seasoned professionals at a young age instilled a mental toughness that benefits him now.
After a year in the Premier League he made the move to Nashville SC, and initially, the transition to MLS was challenging, both on and off the field. But now, Surridge has found his stride, leading MLS with 16 goals, ten of which have been scored in Nashville’s last seven matches. His partnership with Hany Mukhtar is flourishing, and the team is on a 15-game unbeaten streak, contending for the Supporters’ Shield and reaching the US Open Cup semifinals.
Head coach B.J. Callaghan, who implemented a more proactive style of play, praises Surridge’s dedication and self-awareness. “Sam is someone who works on his game a ton. Him scoring goals is a byproduct of how much he works at scoring goals and learning how to position himself.”
Surridge, who recently became a father and got engaged, says he’s found stability in Nashville and appreciates the club’s faith in him. Despite the attention his form is drawing from clubs back in Britain, he remains focused on winning silverware with Nashville SC. “I’m definitely happy at the moment in Nashville,” Surridge stated. “I want to win something with Nashville. This season, we’ve definitely got the tools to do it.”
