**Four New Members Nominated to Rajya Sabha**

**New Delhi, July 13, 2025:** President Droupadi Murmu has nominated four new members to the Rajya Sabha, filling vacancies left by retiring members. The nominations, announced by the Union Home Ministry on Saturday, bring a diverse range of expertise to the Upper House.

The nominees include:

* **Harsh Vardhan Shringla:** A retired Indian Foreign Service (IFS) diplomat, Mr. Shringla served as Foreign Secretary of India, Ambassador to the United States, and High Commissioner to Bangladesh. He also coordinated India’s hosting of the G-20 Summit in 2023.
* **Ujjwal Nikam:** A celebrated lawyer and Special Public Prosecutor, Mr. Nikam is best known for his work on the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack trial of Ajmal Kasab and the 1991 Bombay bomb blasts case. He previously ran for Lok Sabha seat from Maharashtra’s Mumbai North seat in 2024.
* **C. Sadanandan Master:** A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran from Kerala. He is known as a “living martyr” after losing both legs in a suspected Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] attack in 1994. A former teacher and active member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh think tank, Bharatiya Vichara Kendram.
* **Meenakshi Jain:** A noted historian and former Associate Professor of history at Gargi College, Delhi University. Dr. Jain has served as a fellow of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library. Also a member of the governing council of Indian Council of Historical Research. She is a recipient of the Padma Shri award for her contributions to literature and education.

These nominations, representing distinguished careers in diplomacy, law, education and public service, reflect the President’s prerogative to nominate individuals of eminence to the Rajya Sabha, contributing to the legislative process with their diverse perspectives.
