**10 Charged with Attempted Murder in Ambush on Law Enforcement Near ICE Detention Facility in Texas**

**ALVARADO, Texas, July 8, 2024** – Ten individuals have been charged with attempted murder following a late-night ambush targeting law enforcement officers outside the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, approximately 40 miles southwest of Dallas. The charges were announced Monday by federal prosecutors during a press conference.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy Larson for the Northern District of Texas, the suspects allegedly conspired to create a disturbance outside the detention center on Friday night, with the intent of luring ICE personnel outside to shoot and kill them. The suspects, dressed in black, military-style clothing, allegedly began shooting fireworks, vandalizing vehicles, and spray-painting graffiti in an attempt to draw out law enforcement.

During the incident, an Alvarado police officer responding to the scene was shot in the neck. Another suspect allegedly fired a barrage of bullets at unarmed corrections officers who exited the facility. No ICE employees were injured. The injured police officer was treated and released from a local hospital.

The suspects fled the scene but were later apprehended during traffic stops. Authorities discovered body armor, spray paint, a flag with the message “resist fascism, fight oligarchy,” and flyers advocating “fight ICE terror with class war and free all political prisoners.” Subsequent search warrants revealed masks, goggles, tactical gloves, a cache of weapons, and what Larson described as “insurrectionist material.”

Each of the 10 suspects has been charged with three counts of attempted murder of a federal officer and three counts of discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. If convicted, they face a mandatory sentence of 10 years to life in prison. An eleventh suspect faces up to 10 years in prison on charges of obstruction of justice and conspiracy for allegedly attempting to conceal and destroy evidence related to the attack.

“This will not be tolerated,” Larson stated. “Those who use violence against law enforcement officers will be found and they will be prosecuted with the toughest criminal statutes and penalties that we have available to us.”

Larson emphasized the planned nature of the attack, calling it “a planned ambush with the intent to kill ICE corrections officers.” “Make no mistake, this was not a so-called peaceful protest. It was, indeed, an ambush.”

The incident comes amidst ongoing protests against the Trump administration’s immigration policies. Last month, President Trump deployed members of the National Guard to Los Angeles to protect ICE agents performing immigration arrests.

The investigation is ongoing. Further details will be released as they become available.
