**”Summer-Ween” Kicks Off with New 4K Edition of John Carpenter’s “Halloween”**
As July marks the unofficial start of “Summer-Ween,” horror fans are already gearing up for the spooky season. A staple of Halloween marathons, John Carpenter’s seminal 1978 slasher film, “Halloween,” is getting a chilling new 4K release just in time for its namesake holiday.
Scream Factory, known for its high-quality horror releases, is offering a Walmart-exclusive 4K/Blu-ray combo pack with a striking new slipcover. Priced at $26.96, the set features orange-toned artwork showcasing Michael Myers’ iconic mask on a black background. This marks the second “Halloween” release from Scream Factory this year.
Additionally, the company is releasing two 4K/Blu-ray steelbooks for “Halloween” and “Halloween II,” exclusively available on Amazon this September. Scream Factory previously released the first eight “Halloween” films on 4K slipcover in 2021 and 2022.
“Halloween” is credited with revolutionizing the slasher genre, thanks to its suspenseful atmosphere, Carpenter’s unsettling score, and relatable small-town setting. Its success led to it becoming the highest-grossing independent film of all time. While the franchise has spawned numerous sequels, remakes, and reboots, none have quite captured the magic of the original.
While “Halloween Ends” (2022) seemingly put an end to Michael Myers, the franchise is set to return with new films and a potential TV series.
For those who prefer streaming, “Halloween” is currently available on AMC+ and Crackle for free. However, physical media enthusiasts can pre-order Scream Factory’s new 4K slipcover edition of “Halloween” on Walmart’s website, with a release date of August 27th. Scream Factory will also be releasing two more Carpenter 4K steelbooks for Prince of Darkness and Ghosts of Mars later this summer.
