**Families Allege Delhi Police Illegally Deported Six to Bangladesh**
**NEW DELHI, July 8, 2025** – Two families from the Birbhum district of West Bengal have accused the Delhi Police of illegally detaining and deporting six of their members, including two women and two minors, to Bangladesh. The families allege that the individuals were “pushed” across the border on June 26th after being suspected of being illegal Bangladeshis.
Bhodu Shek, from Murarai village, claims his daughter Danish Sekh, her wife Sunali Khatun, and their minor son Sabir Shek were deported by the K N Katju Marg police station in Rohini. He alleges they were detained on June 18th despite providing voter cards, Aadhaar cards, and land deeds as proof of Indian citizenship.
Similarly, Anjela Bibi from Paikar village asserts that her daughter-in-law Sweety Bibi and her two sons, Kurban Sheikh and Iman Dewan, were also detained on June 18th and deported with the Shek family. The Bibi family, like the Sheks, worked as waste pickers in Delhi.
According to the families, the six individuals were taken from Bengali Basti in Rohini Sector 26. They claim police records falsely state that the families confessed to being from Bagerhat, Bangladesh.
While the families acknowledge the incident, they maintain their innocence. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini), the deported individuals confessed to being from Bangladesh, had no valid documents, and were flown out of Delhi with deportation orders from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
Both families are seeking legal recourse, calling the deportation “illegal” and demanding answers from the Delhi Police. The incident raises concerns about the verification processes used to determine citizenship and the potential for wrongful deportations.
