**Guardians Plummet as Losing Streak Hits Eight in Loss to Tigers**

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Guardians’ struggles continued Friday night as they fell 2-1 to the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field, marking their eighth consecutive loss and longest skid since 2021. A sellout crowd of 38,213 witnessed the Guardians’ offensive woes firsthand, as they mustered just one run despite a strong pitching performance from starter Slade Cecconi.

Cecconi pitched six innings, allowing two runs on solo home runs, but the Guardians’ offense could only muster a single solo homer from José Ramírez in the first inning. A controversial play at the plate in the second, where Bo Naylor was called out after review, further dampened the Guardians’ hopes.

“Judging from the replays that we saw, it looked like his hand got in there before the glove touched him,” said manager Stephen Vogt.

This loss underscores a significant downturn for Cleveland, who back in May were only three games behind the division-leading Tigers. Now, after going 11-24 since May 24th, they find themselves 13 1/2 games back in the AL Central and five games out of a Wild Card spot.

With the offense averaging a paltry 2.88 runs per game in June, hope rests on a potential boost from prospect Chase DeLauter, currently tearing it up in Triple-A Columbus. However, Vogt noted that the team needs contributions from the entire group to turn things around.

“I think you see guys staying around and watching that because it should sting. It should hurt,” said Cecconi. “If you feel that pain and know how to channel it, it can lead to great things.”
