**Netanyahu Dismisses Hamas Truce Demands as “Unacceptable” as Gaza Carnage Continues**

**Doha, Qatar** – Hopes for a Gaza ceasefire hang in the balance as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office labeled Hamas’s proposed changes to a truce agreement as “unacceptable,” while simultaneously announcing plans to send a negotiating team to Qatar for further talks. The announcement came amidst ongoing Israeli bombardment of Gaza, which has claimed at least 78 lives in the past 24 hours.

Netanyahu instructed negotiators to accept an invitation for close talks but the changes Hamas is requesting to make to the Qatari proposal were delivered to us last night and are unacceptable to Israel. Hamas said its response to the US-brokered proposal, which calls for a 60-day truce, was “positive.”

Hamas seeks guarantees of a permanent end to the war, continued negotiations during any pause in fighting, UN oversight of aid delivery instead of the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), and adjustments to the positioning of Israeli forces within Gaza.

The families of Israeli captives held in Gaza have accused Netanyahu of prioritizing political gain over the lives of their loved ones, alleging his right-wing allies oppose a deal.

Earlier on Saturday, Israel’s far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, called on the Israeli prime minister to “abandon the path of surrender”.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, Israeli attacks continue to inflict devastating casualties, including strikes on a UN-run school and residential buildings. Aid distribution points are also proving deadly, with over 700 Palestinians killed while seeking food.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has described the situation in Gaza as catastrophic, with people “dying just trying to get food” and has urgently called for a ceasefire.
