**MIAMI, FL** – Fresh off a historic run in the FIFA Club World Cup, Inter Miami CF is set to resume its MLS campaign this weekend against CF Montréal. The Herons, who made history by defeating FC Porto en route to the tournament’s knockout stage, will look to translate that momentum into league play, where they currently sit seventh in the Eastern Conference but hold games in hand over their rivals.

“After their impressive global tournament, coach Javier Mascherano’s squad is ready to focus on the league, in what is expected to be a busy summer period, including the scaled-down Leagues Cup competition” reports Sports Illustrated’s Ben Steiner.

Despite swirling rumors around Lionel Messi’s future, the Argentine superstar is expected to be in the lineup alongside fellow former Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suárez. Tadeo Allende, Federico Redondo, and Telasco Segovia are also expected to feature, rounding out Miami’s midfield and attack.

Their opponent, CF Montréal, is currently struggling at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with just three wins in 20 games. While they welcome back Designated Player striker Giacomo Vrioni, they will be without Canadian international Nathan Saliba, who has been sold to Anderlecht.

“Interim head coach Marco Donadel has led the group to some solid performances; however, they remain last in the Eastern Conference with three wins in 20 games” explains Steiner.

Canadian international center back Joel Waterman returns from the Concacaf Gold Cup for Montréal, and Victor Loturi, who scored against New York City FC last week, is a player to watch. However, injuries to key players like Caden Clark, Fabian Herbers, and Jalen Neal could further hamper their chances.

Inter Miami, on the other hand, is coming off a dominant 5-1 victory over Columbus Crew in their last MLS match. With a near full-strength squad, the Herons are heavily favored to secure a victory and climb up the Supporters’ Shield Standings. Steiner suggests, “Miami should coast to victory and could rack up the goals in the process, hoping to carry into MLS action like the Seattle Sounders did with a 2-0 win over Austin FC last weekend.”
