WEST SACRAMENTO – Despite languishing near the bottom of MLB attendance figures, the Oakland A’s are expected to sell out their weekend series against the San Francisco Giants at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. The temporary home of the A’s, a minor-league facility with a capacity of just over 14,000, has struggled to attract fans, averaging under 10,000 per game this season.
However, the allure of the Bay Area rivalry and the large contingent of Giants fans in the region is anticipated to fill the stadium for all three night games. Giants manager Bob Melvin, who spent 11 seasons managing the A’s, anticipates a “raucous” atmosphere.
The A’s, currently with the league’s worst home record at 15-27, are playing in Sacramento while owner John Fisher focuses on relocating the team to Las Vegas. This has led to a sense of detachment from local fans. The Giants swept a series from the A’s in Mid-May at Oracle Park.
