**Silverstone, UK -** Max Verstappen snatched pole position for the British Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying session at Silverstone. The Red Bull driver delivered a blistering final lap of 1m 24.892s, edging out the McLaren duo of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, who had looked strong throughout the session.
Verstappen’s late surge denied McLaren a potential front-row lockout, with George Russell of Mercedes also close behind. Lewis Hamilton finished fifth, a mere two-tenths off Verstappen, but felt he lost crucial time in the final corners. He will start alongside Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
The session was not without incident. Q1 was red-flagged when Franco Colapinto crashed his Alpine at the final corner. He managed to rejoin the track but eventually stopped at the start of the lap, bringing the session to a halt.
Esteban Ocon was eliminated in Q1 after driving a “flat-spotted” lap, while rookie racer Isack Hadjar qualified P13, admitting he had “reached the limit of what my car could do.”
Verstappen’s pole sets the stage for an exciting British Grand Prix, with McLaren, Mercedes, and Ferrari all seemingly in contention for a strong result.
