**Trump Signs ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ into Law, Cementing Tax Cuts and Boosting Border Security**
Washington D.C. – President Donald Trump signed his signature “One Big, Beautiful Bill” into law on Friday at the White House, marking a significant victory for his administration and fulfilling key campaign promises. Celebrated on the Fourth of July, the bill solidifies tax cuts from Trump’s first term, substantially increases military spending, and allocates massive funding for border security and migrant deportation efforts.
“America is winning, winning, winning like never before,” Trump declared at the signing ceremony, thanking House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune for their efforts in passing the nearly 900-page bill.
The legislation, touted by Republicans as crucial to prevent a massive tax increase, includes approximately $4.5 trillion in tax cuts, making existing tax rates and brackets permanent. It also introduces temporary tax deductions for tips, overtime, and auto loans, alongside a $6,000 deduction for older adults earning under $75,000 annually and an increase in the child tax credit to $2,200. Furthermore, it quadruples the cap on state and local tax deductions (SALT) to $40,000 for five years and allows businesses to immediately write off 100% of equipment and research costs.
However, the bill faces criticism as reports indicate the wealthiest households could see a $12,000 increase, while the poorest could face a $1,600 annual loss due to reductions in Medicaid and food aid.
A significant portion of the bill, $350 billion, is dedicated to Trump’s border and national security agenda, including funding for the US-Mexico border wall and increasing migrant detention facility beds to 100,000. It also allocates funds for hiring 10,000 new ICE officers and surging Border Patrol personnel, aiming to deport approximately 1 million people annually.
The Pentagon will receive billions for shipbuilding, munitions, and service member quality of life improvements, including $1 billion for border security. Additionally, $25 billion is earmarked for the development of Trump’s “Golden Dome” missile defense system.
To offset the costs, the bill includes cuts to Medicaid and food assistance programs, imposing new 80-hour-a-month work requirements for many adults receiving these benefits and introducing a $35 co-payment for Medicaid services. Clean energy tax credits will also be rolled back, including the expiration of electric vehicle tax credits by September 30.
The bill introduces “Trump Accounts,” a children’s savings program with a potential $1,000 deposit from the Treasury, a new excise tax on university endowments, and a 1% tax on remittances. It also eliminates a $200 tax on gun silencers and short-barreled rifles, bars Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood for one year, and grants billions for the Artemis moon mission and Mars exploration.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill is projected to increase federal deficits by nearly $3.3 trillion over the next decade.
