**Mumbai, India** – A planned “victory rally” by estranged brothers Raj and Uddhav Thackeray has become a focal point in the escalating debate over language politics in Maharashtra. The controversy began with a proposal to make Hindi compulsory in schools from the first grade, sparking a backlash that has morphed into a broader conflict between Marathi and non-Marathi speakers.

Tensions were further inflamed after a shopkeeper in Mira Road was allegedly assaulted for not speaking Marathi. This incident was followed by a provocative statement from Sushil Kedia, founder of Kedionomics, who challenged Marathi speakers by stating he would not learn the language.

Adding fuel to the fire, Kali Sena president Swami Anand Swaroop issued an open challenge to both Thackeray brothers. In a video posted on X, Swaroop declared his intention to come to Mumbai and speak in Hindi, daring anyone to stop him. He further taunted the Thackerays, stating, “Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray, I am coming to Mumbai, if you have the guts, try to touch me. If I don’t break your hands, then see.”

In response, MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande warned that those who refuse to learn Marathi would face consequences. He emphasized that Marathi must be learned in Maharashtra and cautioned against Hindi speakers trying to impose their language.

The rally, initially planned as a protest against the mandatory Hindi proposal, was repurposed as a “victory rally” after the government revoked the controversial policy. Despite this, the event remains significant, with speculation about the message the Thackeray brothers intend to convey.
