**Gondomar, Portugal** – The football world came to a standstill on Saturday as family, friends, and fellow players gathered to mourn the tragic loss of Liverpool star Diogo Jota, 28, and his brother, Andre Silva, 25, who died in a car crash in Spain on Thursday.

The funeral service, held at Igreja Matriz church in Gondomar, Portugal, saw an outpouring of grief and respect for the siblings. Among the mourners were Portugal’s national team coach Roberto Martinez, and Premier League stars Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, and Bruno Fernandes. Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk and teammate Andrew Robertson paid their respects, carrying floral tributes in the shape of football shirts bearing Jota’s number 20 and Silva’s number 30, respectively.

The brothers were found dead near Zamora in northwestern Spain after their Lamborghini crashed on an isolated highway just after midnight and burst into flames. They were reportedly on their way to catch a boat from northern Spain to the UK, where Jota was scheduled to rejoin Liverpool after his summer break.

Spanish police are investigating the single-vehicle accident, suspecting a blown tire may have been the cause.

Diogo Jota, a Premier League champion with Liverpool, married his longtime partner Rute Cardoso just two weeks prior to his death. The couple had three young children. Jota began his playing career in Gondomar before rising to international fame. His brother, Andre Silva, played for Portuguese club Penafiel.

The loss of the Jota brothers has sent shockwaves through the football community, with condolences pouring in from around the world.
