**London, UK** – England Women secured a nail-biting five-run victory over India Women in the third T20I of their five-match series, played at The Oval on Friday. The win keeps England’s hopes alive in the series, with India still leading.
England, after winning the toss and electing to bat, posted a total of 171 for 9. Openers Sophia Dunkley (75 off 53 balls) and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (66 off 42 balls) provided a strong foundation with a 137-run partnership. However, the rest of the batting order struggled to capitalize, allowing India to claw back into the game. Arundhati Reddy and Deepti Sharma starred with the ball for India, taking three wickets each.
In response, India fought valiantly but fell short, finishing on 166 for 5. Smriti Mandhana anchored the innings with a half-century, and Shafali Verma added a valuable contribution at the top of the order. However, a flurry of dot balls and tight bowling from England in the final overs proved decisive. Requiring 12 runs off the last over, captain Harmanpreet Kaur (23) and Amanjot Kaur (7) couldn’t get India over the line, with Lauren Bell holding her nerve to see England to victory.
Dunkley was named Player of the Match for her impactful innings. England captain Tammy Beaumont praised her team’s fight and the impact of the young squad. Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged that her team missed opportunities in the chase but credited England’s bowlers for executing their plans effectively.
The fourth T20I will be played on Wednesday, June 9th, at Old Trafford in Manchester.
