**Shimla, July 5, 2025** – Heavy rainfall has triggered widespread flooding and landslides in Himachal Pradesh, causing significant damage and disruption across the state. As of Saturday evening, over 260 roads are blocked, with Mandi district facing the brunt of the destruction, accounting for 176 of the blocked roads.

The India Meteorological Department (MeT) has issued a ‘red’ alert for Kangra, Sirmaur, and Mandi districts on Sunday, July 6th, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. An ‘orange’ alert is in place for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Solan, Shimla, and Kullu districts, anticipating heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The estimated losses so far are around ₹700 crore, according to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The weather department has cautioned about the high risk of landslides, flash floods, and damage to infrastructure, urging residents to stay away from water bodies and vulnerable areas.

Tragically, since the monsoon’s onset on June 20th, 72 lives have been lost, with 45 deaths directly linked to rain-related incidents. Mandi district alone witnessed 10 incidents of cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides earlier this week, claiming 14 lives. Search operations are ongoing for 31 missing persons.

Adding to the woes, essential services have been disrupted, with approximately 300 transformers and 281 water supply schemes affected.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is actively involved in rescue and relief operations across the affected regions. The MeT office has extended the ‘orange’ alert for heavy rainfall into Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday, urging heightened vigilance and preparedness across the state.
