**A.M. Khan Appointed Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University After Nine-Month Vacancy**

**HUBBALLI, July 5, 2025** – Karnatak University, Dharwad (KUD), the second oldest university in Karnataka, has a new full-time vice-chancellor. Prof. Airani Mohammad Khan has been appointed to the position by the Governor of Karnataka and Chancellor of the university, Thaawarchand Gehlot, following a nine-month vacancy.

The official order, issued on Saturday, states that Prof. Khan’s term will last for four years or until he reaches the age of 67, whichever comes first. He is expected to assume his duties on Monday, July 7th.

Prof. Khan brings extensive experience to the role, having previously served as a senior professor and chairman of the Department of Studies and Research in Electronics, as well as Director of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Board (PMEB) and Director of the Skill Development Centre at Mangalore University.

The appointment comes after a delayed process, with the search committee being formed only in April following the retirement of former Vice-Chancellor K.B. Gudasi. The university was led by acting vice-chancellors in the interim. A total of 187 candidates applied for the position.

Prof. Khan boasts 30 years of teaching and research experience, in addition to 20 years of administrative experience, including roles as registrar, registrar evaluation, and member of various committees at Mangalore University and the Government of Karnataka. He also holds credit for over 200 published papers, 10 research projects in collaboration with industry, and two major projects sponsored by DST and BRNS. His achievements have been acknowledged with awards for Best Teacher in 2013 and Outstanding Scientist in 2021.
