Sat Jul 05 07:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Actress Nagiko Tono’s Apartment the Scene of Body Discovery; Identity Unconfirmed

**Tokyo, Japan -** Authorities are investigating after a body was discovered in the apartment believed to be the residence and office of actress and television personality Nagiko Tono, 45. The body, found on July 3rd in her Shinjuku apartment, is reportedly severely decomposed, suggesting the individual had been deceased for several days. Identification is currently underway.

Tono, who left her agency in January to work independently, last updated her Instagram account on June 27th. The cessation of posts, coupled with the discovery, has sparked concern among fans and colleagues.

“A contact of Ms. Tono was unable to reach her and visited the apartment, where the body was found,” a sports reporter stated. “We received the information on July 4th, and locals reported seeing unusual activity at the building on the 3rd.”

One resident of the building reported witnessing emergency vehicles at the scene. “I saw two or three ambulances and fire trucks in front of the building from evening into the night,” they stated. “The last time I saw Ms. Tono was around the end of June. She looked very pale, thin, and gaunt. I thought she might be unwell because she had been appearing on television less.”

Another resident reported a strange scene on July 3rd. “When I went out to the balcony to bring in my laundry around noon, I saw a rope hanging down from the window of Ms. Tono’s apartment,” they said. “Police said they were going to break a window because the resident wasn’t responding, with permission from the building management. The ambulances left after about two hours, so I thought maybe they were able to help.”

In a 2023 interview with Shueisha Online, Tono spoke openly about her struggles with eating disorders and childhood abuse. Her Instagram posts also frequently alluded to these ongoing challenges. A June 27th post mentioned scheduling a visit from a home healthcare provider, expressing her difficulty in trusting others and accepting help. However, she wrote, “Deciding to receive help was a good thing. For the sake of protecting Shu-kun.”

Shu-kun is Tono’s male Ragdoll cat, whom she affectionately referred to as her “son.” She expressed deep affection for him, stating that she wanted him to enjoy his life without reservation.

Prior to the discovery, Tono reportedly had been actively using dating apps in search of a partner, hoping to find security and comfort in a relationship, a desire that reportedly remained unfulfilled despite three previous marriages.

According to one entertainment reporter who interviewed Tono shortly before her disappearance, she said “I’m not expecting anything from the future. I’m just living in the moment.” The reporter had been monitoring Tono’s Instagram, expressing concern over posts detailing insomnia and poor health.

As of July 5th, the identity of the body found in Tono’s apartment remains unconfirmed. The whereabouts of Shu-kun, her beloved cat, are also unknown.
