**Port of Spain – July 4, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday as part of a five-nation tour, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Caribbean nation since 1999. He was greeted with a ceremonial welcome at Piarco International Airport.
The visit, the second leg of Modi’s extensive diplomatic outreach, focuses on strengthening the long-standing relationship between India and Trinidad and Tobago. He is scheduled to meet with President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to discuss areas of mutual interest and cooperation.
“Looking forward to deepening ties with a valued partner in the Caribbean, with whom we share very old cultural linkages,” Modi said prior to his arrival.
Later today, the Prime Minister will address a Joint Session of the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago and attend a community event at the National Cycling Velodrome in Couva. The Indian government anticipates that this visit will provide fresh momentum to the historical and cultural connections between the two countries.
Prior to Trinidad and Tobago, Modi visited Ghana, where India and Ghana elevated their ties to a comprehensive partnership. His tour will continue with visits to Argentina, Brazil (for the 17th BRICS Summit), and Namibia.
