**Julio César Chávez Jr. Arrested in U.S., Facing Deportation Amid Cartel Allegations**
**Anaheim, CA –** Mexican boxing legend Julio César Chávez Jr. has been arrested in the United States and is facing expedited deportation proceedings, according to a statement released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The arrest comes just days after Chávez Jr. participated in an exhibition fight against Jake Paul in Anaheim, California.
A statement released by Julio César Chávez González on Instagram states he and the rest of the Chavez family showed consternation for the situation, and are in solidarity with Chavez Jr.
U.S. authorities allege Chávez Jr. has ties to the Sinaloa Cartel and is wanted in Mexico on charges of organized crime and weapons trafficking. The Mexican Attorney General’s Office confirmed the existence of an arrest warrant for Chávez Jr. dating back to March 2023.
“This affiliate of the Sinaloa Cartel, with an active arrest warrant for trafficking in arms, ammunition, and explosives, was arrested by ICE,” stated DHS Deputy Secretary Tricia McLaughlin in a press release. “Under the Trump presidency, no one is above the law, not even world-famous athletes. Our message to any cartel affiliate in the United States is clear: we will find you, and you will face the consequences.”
The Chávez family has released a statement expressing their support for Julio César Chávez Jr. amidst the allegations and legal proceedings.
