**Underrated Gulf War Drama “Jarhead” Heads to Paramount+ This July**
**Los Angeles, CA –** Before Anthony Mackie and Jeremy Renner hit it big with “The Hurt Locker,” Jake Gyllenhaal and Jamie Foxx starred in “Jarhead,” a compelling war film examining the psychological toll on soldiers during the Gulf War. This under-celebrated film, directed by Sam Mendes, will be available for streaming on Paramount+ starting July 1.
Released in 2005, “Jarhead” arrived on the heels of Foxx’s Oscar win for “Ray” and Gyllenhaal’s success in “The Day After Tomorrow.” Mendes, who would later direct the James Bond blockbuster “Skyfall,” offers a departure from his Oscar-winning “American Beauty” with this gritty and atmospheric portrayal of soldiers grappling with boredom and isolation in the Middle East.
Based on Anthony Swofford’s memoir, the film follows Marine sniper Swofford (Gyllenhaal) and his deployment during the Persian Gulf War. The film also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Lucas Black, Brian Geraghty, and John Krasinski.
Critics like Roger Ebert praised “Jarhead” for its unique focus on the psychological aspects of the war experience, highlighting the boredom and isolation faced by Gulf War Marines.
“Jarhead” offers a compelling and thought-provoking look at the Gulf War experience. Don’t miss it when it arrives on Paramount+ on July 1.
