**Dallas, TX** – The Dallas Wings’ underwhelming start to the 2025 WNBA season hasn’t dampened the stellar performance of rookie point guard Paige Bueckers. Despite the team’s struggles after a significant offseason overhaul, Bueckers, the No. 1 overall draft pick, is quietly putting together a historic rookie campaign.

Bueckers is averaging 17.7 points and 5.8 assists per game, both ranking in the top 15 league-wide. Her offensive prowess, particularly in the midrange, has quickly translated to the professional level. She leads the league in midrange scoring, converting an impressive 58.2% of her shots from that area.

“Everybody knows Paige is elite,” said All-Star guard Arike Ogunbowale. “Being a point guard in this league is already tough, but being a rookie point guard is even tougher, and I think she’s been handling the pressure really well and just leading our team really well.”

Bueckers’ ability to create opportunities for her teammates is also a key part of her success. Nearly half of her assists in the half-court lead to 3-point attempts, and she’s an equal-opportunity distributor, finding multiple teammates for double-digit assists.

While her 3-point shooting is still a work in progress (30.8%), Bueckers has shown flashes of brilliance, including a 35-point performance against the Phoenix Mercury where she hit five triples.

Even in defeat, Bueckers has earned high praise from opponents. “(Bueckers) is a hooper,” said Mercury All-Star Alyssa Thomas. “She just controls the game so well. The sky’s the limit for her.”

Defensively, Bueckers is showing promise, ranking in the top 20 in blocks and steals. While her defense is still developing, the Wings’ defense suffers when she’s off the court.

In their last five games, the Wings are 3-2, with both losses coming by single digits, indicating a possible turnaround as Bueckers finds her rhythm. She’s on track to join an elite group of WNBA players who have averaged at least 15 points and five assists per game in their rookie season, following in the footsteps of last year’s Rookie of the Year, Caitlin Clark.

While Clark set a high bar, Bueckers is proving to be a special talent, and her exceptional rookie season deserves recognition.
