Thu Jul 03 12:19:49 UTC 2025: ## Mettur Dam Level Dips After Reaching Full Capacity

**SALEM, July 3, 2025 (The Hindu)** – The water level in the Mettur Dam, located in Salem, Tamil Nadu, has dropped below 120 feet today, marking the end of a brief period of full capacity. After experiencing heavy rainfall in catchment areas and receiving water discharged from Karnataka dams, the Mettur Dam had reached its full capacity of 120 feet on Sunday.

For the subsequent five days, the dam level was maintained at 120 feet, and the entire inflow was discharged for delta irrigation purposes. However, the rain has ceased in the catchment areas, leading to a gradual decrease in the inflow to the dam since Wednesday.

As of 8 a.m. today, the inflow had reduced to 23,124 cusecs from the previous day’s 25,500 cusecs. This decline continued, with the inflow dropping further to 18,615 cusecs by 4 p.m.

Consequently, the dam level has fallen to 119.80 feet, just shy of its full capacity. The current storage level is 93.15 tmc ft, compared to a full capacity of 93.47 tmc ft.

The discharge from the dam into the River Cauvery for delta irrigation has been reduced to 24,000 cusecs from the earlier rate of 25,000 cusecs. The discharge for canal irrigation remains constant at 500 cusecs.

While the water level has slightly decreased, the Mettur Dam continues to provide crucial irrigation support to the delta region. Authorities are closely monitoring the inflow and outflow to ensure efficient water management.
