**Kolkata, India** – Indian cricket star Mohammed Shami has been directed by the Calcutta High Court to pay ₹4 lakh per month to his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, and their daughter, Aaira, as part of their ongoing divorce proceedings. The court order stipulates that ₹1.5 lakh is to be allocated to Jahan and ₹2.5 lakh for the maintenance of their daughter.
The legal battle between Shami and Jahan has been ongoing since 2018, when Jahan, a former model, accused the cricketer of domestic violence and adultery, leading to their separation. The couple married in 2014 and had their daughter in 2015.
Speaking to ANI, Jahan expressed relief at the court’s decision, stating she was forced to quit her modeling career at Shami’s insistence. “I used to model and act before I got married…Shami forced me to quit my profession. He wanted me to live only a housewife’s life…But now I have no earnings of my own. Shami has to bear all the responsibility for our maintenance.”
Jahan also expressed her disappointment in Shami’s actions and hope he would give up ruining her life and consider their daughter’s future.
Imtiaz Ahmed, Jahan’s advocate, hailed the High Court’s judgment as a victory for his client, stating she had been struggling since 2018. He highlighted that the court also directed Shami to provide additional assistance to their daughter as needed.
The High Court has instructed the trial court to expedite the main application for the interim order within six months. Ahmed suggested the monthly amount could be increased to ₹6 lakh, considering Jahan’s original maintenance claim was for ₹7 lakh for herself and ₹3 lakh for their daughter.
