Brown’s comments come after a Sky Italy report indicated Verstappen is “open” to joining the Silver Arrows, igniting rumors further fueled by delays in George Russell’s contract extension at Mercedes.
“When there’s smoke, there’s fire,” Brown told Sky Sports News at McLaren’s pre-British Grand Prix event. He implied that the ongoing conversations, acknowledged by Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, are indicative of serious negotiations. “I said a while ago I wouldn’t be surprised to see Max in a Mercedes,” he added.
